UCI - WCC Oceania Continental Satellite Centre
The Grassroots Trust Velodrome is the home of the UCI WCC Continental Development Satellite based in Cambridge, New Zealand. This Satellite is the first in Oceania, and aims to develop cycling on the mainland, targeting particularly the Pacific islands.
Cambridge’s Satellite, inaugurated in March 2024, has developed strategic and action plans to begin serving the National Federations of the Oceania region. It is 1 of 9 Satellite centers globally.
Objectives:
Leading the development of cycling at all levels and across all disciplines.
Disciplines include Track cycling, Para track cycling, Road cycling, Para road cycling, Mountain bike XC, BMXing.
Welcome cyclists, coaches and enthusiasts from all cycling disciplines to train together and share their experience.
Bring together people and resources to educate and inspire.
To offer a central access point for education and athletic cycling development services, as well as programmes for National Cycling Federations (NCF) and their members. E.G. running courses from bike mechanics to coaching courses and education for officials. Supporting NCF with camps and development here.
To create enhanced opportunities for emerging nations to become more autonomous in the driving of their own projects and missions, all the while increasing development progression with the cohort of athletes that can lead to qualification and performance at either Olympic and Paralympic Games.
