A brand new Sports Activation Centre, arriving to the infield of the Grassroots Trust Velodrome in September 2026. Working with digital innovation and event agency, Satellite, we are designing a cutting-edge interactive space designed to inspire movement through gamified sports activities, bringing the science of movement to life.
Across 10 interactive, tech-powered game pods, you'll run, jump, pedal, shoot and move to control the action on-screen.
Designed for everyone. No sporting experience needed, just jump in and play!

Opening soon at the Grassroots Trust Velodrome in the heart of Waipa, one of New Zealand's most celebrated sporting regions. This is a place that has produced world champions and Olympic medalists across generations.

A school trip, a team day, a birthday, a Tuesday afternoon with nothing planned. PlayLab works for all of it - and for every level, every age, and every excuse to get moving.
PlayLab can cater to almost any format, group size or occasion. Whether you are bringing 10 people or a hundred, want a quick 2 hour session or full day out, need catering or want to add a Sports Hall of Fame tour on site, we'll make it work.
School Visits
Built for the students who love sports, and the ones who think they don't - yet. PlayLab is a purpose-built sports activation centre designed to get every student moving. Curriculum-linked, teacher-friendly and genuinely hard to drag kids away from.
Primarily for years 7-12, PlayLab delivers directly against the NZ Health & PE Curriculum, building movement skills, teamwork, communication, resilience and confidence through 10 sports pods and endless gamified challenges.
Corporate, Teams & Groups
A team day that staff actually want to come to. PlayLab is team building that works because it doesn't feel like team-building. Ten sports pods, a live leaderboard and a surprising amount of competitive energy alongside movement and fun.
You can decide the teams before you arrive. On the day, each person gets their own wristband linked to their name and team. Every pod they play is recorded, every score counts, and the leaderboard is updated in real time.
More than a Velodrome
In 2026 the Grassroots Trust Velodrome will be rebranded to the Grassroots Trust Arena. Why? Because we are so much more than a Velodrome. The name Arena reflects the multitude of facilities here and activities that will be on offer here.
