Junior Programme

The Grassroots Trust Velodrome Junior programme offers young riders a pathway of continual development. From first timers on our have-a-go sessions all the way up to advanced junior level, there will be a session that suits everyone.

The Junior programme is designed to allow riders to progress through the various squads.

These sessions are run by qualified, experienced Grassroots Trust Velodrome Coaches and are suitable for kids aged from 10 years (provided they meet the minimum height requirements of 135cm) up to 18 years of age.

Our Junior Programme Coordinator, Mya Anderson will be able to advise on which squad is most suitable for your needs at mya.anderson@velodrome.nz  and we’ll get you booked in!

A note about infield access...

The Grassroots Trust Velodrome limits infield access for health, safety, and development.

Therefore, infield access will only be granted to those who are riding on the track.

The two main reasons why we limit infield access during certain sessions:

  • Health & Safety; additional people in the infield can create congestion, potentially impacting coaches’ ability to supervise and ensure a safe environment. Infield access must also be monitored in case of emergency situations, hence all visitors entering the infield must sign in at reception.

  • Junior Development; For our junior programmes specifically, limited infield access allows young athletes to develop self-managing and problem-solving skills. This translates to independence, confidence and better decision making on the track, ultimately making them well rounded athletes.

Medical event/incident:

We understand that in the case of a medical event or incident that children will want their parents. If you find yourself in this situation, please come to reception and inform the staff member on the desk. Our staff member will escort you into the infield to your child. Please do not enter onto the track.

Please rest assured that there are experienced coaches and volunteers in the infield to support your children with anything they may need. Please encourage your children to make contact with one of our coaches/support volunteers if they require help with any task.
