The NZ Sports Hall of Fame is moving
The New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1990 as part of the celebrations to mark New Zealand's 150 years of organised settlement.
Since 1999 it has been housed in the Dunedin Railway Station. However, in 2021 it was put to tender to find a new home for the Exhibit. The tender was won by Grassroots Trust Velodrome, (governed by the Home of Cycling Charitable Trust), and will move north in 2026. Over 150 individuals and teams have been inducted representing a wide range of sports.
The Hall will be housed in our existing spectacular building, on the second floor 'concourse', and will be reimagined into a modern, dynamic and interactive exhibition, opening late 2026.
We are dedicated to delivering a Sports Hall of Fame experience that celebrates achievement, inspires future generations, and connects communities — both through our physical venue and engaging virtual experiences. The experience will include the interactive Exhibit, an "Everybody Active" Infield experience, education programs and an extended events capacity and program.
