Feel stronger, improve stability & live confidently. These energising gym-based circuit and Pilates classes are designed for Active Agers (50+). Build strength, balance & mobility in a welcoming environment where effort is celebrated & progress feels great. Step into each day with more power & peace of mind.

Whether you are brand new to the gym environment, looking to meet new friends or wanting to build strength, stability and move well as you age - we have a range of classes to suit your goals. From our Active Agers classes with Coach Mel to our senior spin with Pamela, there is something for all ages at the Velodrome.

About the Coach - Mel Engelbrecht

Meet Motion Mel- the heart behind our Active Agers community. Mel is an internationally certified gym and Pilates trainer with over 20 years experience and a passion for helping people thrive during this stage of life.

Staying active is about friendship, confidence, and enjoying movement together. Mel understands the unique needs of Active Agers and creates classes that are:

  • Safe and supportive: work at your own pace with personalized modifications

  • Fun and social: connect with others while keeping your body and mind active

  • Varied and engaging: routines continually evolve to keep things fresh and exciting

The Benefits of Active Agers

The Active Agers programme is designed to support safe, effective training for those who are 50 years and above. The focus is on feeling stronger, more stable and more confident in everyday movement, while training in a supportive and social environment.

Benefits of the programme include:

  • Increased strength to make daily tasks easier and reduce injury risk

  • Reduced risk of falls through targeted, well-guided training

  • Support for long-term independence and overall wellbeing

This program, led by the amazing Mel, is designed to support movement, confidence and quality of life at every stage.

Class Types & Times

Sessions run from Monday-Thursday and each session is 60 minutes, tailored for 50+ years.

  • Bookings are essential as class numbers are capped.

  • If you are new to the program, start with a Get Going assessment class.

What to bring and wear

Wear supportive sneakers and clothes that are suitable for getting up and down off the floor and moving around in. Bring a drink bottle and a small towel. All equipment supplied.

Get Going: 
Tuesdays 10 - 11.00 am

This class is a prerequisite for Active Agers Class, for newbies and those hampered by previous injury, illness, disability. e.g. re-entry to class after surgery or rehabilitation. Class sizes are limited.

$8.50 for non-members or free for members with a senior or community membership.

Active Agers: 
Monday 8-9 am, 9-10 am & 10-11 am
Wednesday 8-9 am, 9-10 am & 10-11 am

This class is designed for "Active Agers" - generally aged 50+. Our Gym instructor will take you through a range of exercises to increase strength, stability and improve fitness. Class sizes are limited. Please book your class on our Gymmaster App to guarantee your place in each class.

$8.50 for non-members or free for members with a senior or community membership.

Senior Pilates:
Thursday 8:30-9:30 am & Men's Pilates 9:30-10:30 am

Pilates lengthens and stretches all the major muscle groups in the body in a balanced fashion. It improves flexibility, strength, balance, and body awareness. By increasing muscle strength and tone, particularly through your core you will enhance spine stabilisation, muscular control of your back and limbs, as well as achieve balanced muscle strength on all sides of your body. Class sizes are limited. Please book your class on our Gymmaster App to guarantee your place in each class.

Senior Spin with Pamela:
Tuesday 8.30-9.30 am
Friday 9 -10 am

Spin classes at the Gym are situated in the centre of a world-class velodrome… it doesn’t get much better than this! Get fit riding stationary bikes in a fun, upbeat group class.

$7.50 for non-members or free for members with a senior or community membership.
